Insurance

There is simply no way of avoiding the "Insurance Question"  when you organize an event these days, particularly with a sport that has inherent risk (and just about all sport does).

There are basically two types of insurance that need to be in place; one that covers the venue & the organisers and the other that protects the riders.  The Agassiz Speedway is public land belonging to the District of Kent. To use the venue we need insurance and our certificate is provided by BC Cycling's insurers. It has 2 basic conditions; firstly that everybody must be a BC Cycling member and secondly everybody must be a member of the promoting club, in our case JG4PD.   You must register for BC Cycling membership online, the basic adult membership is around $60. It has many benefits, and honestly if you are out there on a bike its worth having anyway.  We will need to check you have a membership when you register. You can have two "trial" sessions by signing the waiver before you must register; this will be strictly enforced as we don't want to void the insurance.

Cost

JG4PD have generously agreed a $25 fee for Agassiz Speedway members. This is as good as it gets for membership of a BC Cycling  affiliated Club.  As this is a Club Event you must be a member even if you are a member of another club.

We have agreed a $5 per ride fee with the Speedway.  Again its generous given what they charge other track users. This fee goes straight to the track for access.

We will have about 20 sessions in a season, so even with the BC Cycling and JG4PD memberships its still less than $10 per session, which again is good for a fully insured event.

We are working on how we might promote the session with a Tri-BC registered club so that the Tri people can avoid the BC Cycling membership fee.  If this becomes an issue for enough riders we will push a bit harder on the subject.
